Modes Vu at New York Art Book Fair 2017
Modes Vu is making its first appearance at an international art book fair this September in New York City, at this year’s New York Art Book Fair, sharing tables with independent publishers SamePaper. We will present five new books at the fair: Green edition’s of Chiyonori Kitamura’s mouth hole, Chase Witter’s 1-800-SANDALS and Genrikh Ignatov’s backyard court. We are also publishing Chinese photographer Li Chi’s first book, need face (Workbook), and a pre-edition of BUTTER, an entirely new series documenting Chinese youth culture in the 21st century.

dimensions variable
“To me, the robotic movements involved in the act of eating always seemed to be a mixture of misery and eroticism in the vulnerable appearance of a mouth half-open. By opening and closing mouths, people pretend to be normal, act bitterly defeated, and create strong senses of urgency.”
1-800-SANDALS (Green edition) Chase Witter
All-inclusive poolside spiritual retreat; internal and external healing.

the forewarning
“We are collecting reflections of a strange reality smashed in pieces. It is a form of protection from the outer world: a montage that creates a second reality from what we see, and brings the backyard court closer.
Moscow and the world, 2013-2017.”
需要脸 need face (Workbook edition) 李驰 Li Chi
A handbook of everyday faces
“This is a handbook of faces. Though they are not human, I believe that their appearance in my life is not a coincidence. “
BUTTER pre-edition 1
“Collecting butterflies”
In 2047, we will look back at 2017 as the start of a boom of independent creative culture in China. BUTTER pre-edition 1 is a preview of the magazine that will serve as a documentation of this explosion in expression through wear in China’s metropolitan cities.
This edition includes photos from the first “collecting butterflies” party at Basement 6, July 2017, Shanghai.
